KNOW YOUR ROOTS. Do you know your CLAN?
The Kalenjins strictly observe their clan background for identity. Every clan has a symbol of an animal, and in the past the ears of the cows were cut in a certain design to show what clan owns the cow. There was not intermarriage between same clan members. This has helped to avoid close blood (genetics, DNA) from mixing, which would result in birth defects and other abnormalities.


WHICH IS YOUR CLAN? For me it is Kibetu - Kapkomosek, our animal is the Monkey... (drawings below courtesy of Lembus cultural center in Poror) There are more clans not shown below.
