Mugeni araap Mode
of Kipsigis was the most renowned messenger of all. He was a Maotiot and not
woorkoiyot (royal people) and relayed prophetic messages from his Nandi uncles
to the Kipsigis people.
He was of
Kipkendeek clan and his mother was the daughter of Chepokikware , the wife of
Kipnyolei arap Turugat.
He had accompanied
araap Koilgen to Mombasa in 1913 during British celebrations and when he
reached home, the British told the local people... Huyu ni Mgeni wenu and
people mistook him from Mugeni.
He was latter
called Mugeni araap Monde though his names were Barng'etuny araap Kosgey. He
lived in Chepng'ania in Bomet but later aged near Sotik.
Araap Monde died in
1920 and was buried behind Sotik police Station.
